Case Study: Carr Centritech, USA
Pneumatic Scale, a division of Barry-Wehmiller Company, is a worldwide provider of packaging automation equipment and services for the pharmaceutical, household, cosmetic, food, and beverage industries. Pneumatic Scale acquired the Carr and Centritech® product lines from Kendro Industries in Asheville, North Carolina in 2004.
Carr Separation Systems, established in 1992, develops scalable continuous-flow centrifugation systems. Centritech, established in 1991, manufactures a unique line of continuous centrifuges designed for cell perfusion and harvest. These centrifuges serve a variety of markets throughout the world.
Carr-Centritech needed to convert assemblies and drawings from AutoCAD/SE/UG to SolidWorks 2005.BWIR converted the models/assemblies for Carr from AutoCAD to SolidWorks-05.
The conversion process was:
- Importing of Para-solid information from a SolidEdge / Unigraphics model into SolidWorks 2005 and saving the part as a dumb model.(This is primarily used for purchased components). For these models, 2D drawings were created with basic part information.
- Conversion of part / assembly / 2D drawings from AutoCAD / SolidEdge / Unigraphics format into parametric part models or assembly models or 2D drawings in SolidWorks 2005. (This is primarily used for manufactured components and system parts).
The Solution: BWIR's engineers worked on various files and carried out the following:
- Using the embedded SolidEdge / Unigraphics translator, the Para solid information was imported into the SolidWorks part document (used only for purchased components).
- Only the Para solid information was extracted and not the proprietary feature information of the mother part.
- 2D drawings calling out critical dimensions and requisite information of parts were prepared.
- Parametric models, assemblies and detailed engineering drawings were created as per Carr-Centritech / Pneumatic Scale standards using SolidWorks 2005.
